Yesterday it was announced that American Mid-East envoy George Mitchell was resigning his post effective in one week.

In two years of frustration, Mitchell abruptly resigned saying he only intended to remain on the job for two years anyway so apparently there's nothing to read into his sudden announcement to step down.
