It's true. Wikileaks is a threat. But it is not for any of the flimsy reasons we've been hearing.

The true threat of Wikileaks, and the reason it is being labeled a terrorist organization by both politicians and, disturbingly, some journalists, is not the content of its documents but the premise of its work.

Wikileaks is a "threat" because it challenges the secrecy, control and power upon which all mainstream media outlets and authoritarian regimes depend.

To the mainstream press, this is a threat to a career which has increasingly become more about cozying up to politicians than speaking truth to power.

To the government, this is a threat to secrecy and control.

I think you missed the part where wikileaks has released hundreds of thousands of classified documents. The MSM doesn't do that. Don't get me wrong, the world governments shouldn't hold the kinds of secrets that are being released. However, wikileaks is intentionally holding the U.S and other governments hostage. Again, the MSM doesn't do that.

The MSM doesn't do that.

I guess you're too young to have lived through the Deep Throat/Watergate scandal... Iran Contra affair... The entire Bush Presidency...

That would make you correct. I'm not taking sides. Both wikileaks and our world governments are in the wrong.

The real threat: an informed citizenry. Wow. Better not do that or the people might begin voting intelligently!

My point in bringing those things up was not to say that either Wikileaks or the govt. is squeaky clean, just that the MSM does have a history of doing the same thing Wikileaks is doing now.

    Better Careful

WikiLeaks is the middleman in these transactions. Nothing more. As a believer in democracy and as an iconoclast I support their mission. They have not broken any laws; there has been no release of anything vital; and they have done a public service in attacking that one very important area - the sense of self-importance of our politicians and public employees.

I'm beyond tired of my public employees going about our business as if it's all about them. Maybe this will make them behave better.

Well, to be fair, some laws have been broken... by the people that have leaked the info to Wikileaks, but not by Wikileaks themselves.
